After looking at a few games including Strafe and Minecraft.I then looked into How minecraft does its pixel textures, including grass and rock,couldnt find a mud one though.

There was a lot of general information out there for pixel textures.Some of it good ,others not so much.However I feel as though the 2 links right under this image of the process some people go about pixel texturing ,will really help me when I have to do these textures myself.
